Once upon a time, there was a small town where a man lived by himself who couldn’t see. He was blind.
Yet, whenever he went outside at night, he always carried a lighted lamp with him.
One night, a stranger saw him walking down the street with the lamp.
The stranger was confused.
“Why are you carrying a lamp?” he asked. “You can’t see anything.”
The blind man smiled.
“You’re right. The lamp doesn’t help me see.”
“Then why carry it?”
The man replied,
“I carry it so that other people can see me.”
The stranger looked surprised.
“If I walk without a lamp, someone might not see me and could bump into me.”
The stranger nodded.
The blind man continued walking peacefully through the dark street.
The lesson was simple:
Sometimes, what we do isn’t only for ourselves. A small act can make life safer and easier for the people around us.
