A sweet elderly woman called St. Joseph’s Hospital.
In a soft voice, she asked,
“Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?”
The operator replied,
“I’d be happy to help. What’s the patient’s name and room number?”
The woman answered,
“His name is George Miller, and he’s in room 302.”
“Just a moment, please,” the operator said.
After checking the records, the operator returned.
“I have some information for you. His doctor says he’s doing well. His blood pressure is normal, and he’s responding to treatment. He should be able to go home in a few days.”
The elderly woman sighed with relief.
“Oh, thank goodness!”
The operator asked,
“Are you his wife?”
“No,” the woman replied.
“His daughter?”
“No.”
“Then who are you?”
The woman paused and said,
“I’m George’s neighbor.”
The operator smiled.
“That was very kind of you to call.”
The woman replied,
“Of course. I just wanted to know if I should keep parking in his driveway!”
The operator laughed.
“I think you just found out he’s coming home soon!”
The woman sighed.
“That’s what I was afraid of.”
