Two friends were walking through the woods when they came across a huge, deep hole.
“Wow,” one of them said. “That looks really deep.”
“It sure does,” the other replied. “Let’s throw a few small rocks in and see how deep it is.”
They picked up some stones and tossed them into the hole.
They waited.
Nothing.
“No sound,” one of them said. “That must be really deep.”
Suddenly, they noticed a large piece of wood nearby.
“Let’s throw that in.”
They pushed the heavy piece of wood toward the hole and watched it disappear.
Still nothing.
Just then, they heard loud footsteps behind them.
They turned around and saw a goat running straight toward them.
The goat suddenly jumped into the hole.
The two friends stared at each other in shock.
A few moments later, an old farmer came running through the trees.
“Have you seen my goat?” he asked.
The friends pointed toward the hole.
“It just jumped in!”
The farmer shook his head.
“That can’t be my goat.”
“Why not?” they asked.
“Because I had it tied to a large piece of wood.”
