The Father’s Request

A father told his three sons before sending them to university:

“I feel it is my duty to provide you with the best education possible. You don’t owe me anything for that.”

The three sons smiled.

“But,” the father continued, “I do have one request.”

“What is it?” they asked.

“When you graduate and become successful, I want each of you to remember your old father.”

The sons promised they would.

Years later, all three became successful.

The eldest became a doctor and bought his father a beautiful house.

The second became a lawyer and bought him an expensive car.

The youngest became a businessman and sent his father an enormous package.

The father opened it and found a luxurious chair.

A note was attached:

“Dad, I remembered your request. You always told us to think of you when we became successful.”

The father smiled proudly.

Then he sat down in the chair.

It immediately collapsed beneath him.

Inside the package was another note:

“Don’t worry, Dad. I also remembered that you told us to think carefully before buying anything!”
