It was entertainment night at the senior citizens’ center.
After the community sing-along led by Alice at the piano, it was time for the star of the show—Claude the Hypnotist!
Claude stepped onto the small stage and announced proudly, “Tonight, I’m going to prove that hypnosis can make you do things you would never normally do.”
Everyone applauded.
He invited three volunteers onto the stage.
“Close your eyes,” Claude instructed. “Relax and listen carefully to my voice.”
After a few minutes, he snapped his fingers.
“You are now chickens!”
The three volunteers immediately began flapping their arms and making chicken noises.
The audience laughed loudly.
Claude was delighted.
“Now, when I snap my fingers again, you will forget everything that happened.”
He snapped his fingers.
The three volunteers stopped and looked around.
Claude smiled proudly.
“Does anyone remember what happened?”
Nobody answered.
Then an elderly gentleman in the audience suddenly stood up.
“Claude, this is amazing!”
Claude smiled.
“Thank you, sir. Would you like to come up and try it yourself?”
The man shook his head.
“No, thank you.”
“Why not?”
The old man pointed toward the stage.
“I’ve been married for sixty years.”
Claude looked confused.
“What does that have to do with hypnosis?”
The old man smiled.
“My wife has been telling me what to do for sixty years.”
He sat back down.
“I don’t need another hypnotist.”
