Two friends and another traveler were hiking through the mountains when they came across a small cave.
One of the friends smiled and called out,
“Hello!”
A moment later, the cave answered,
“Hello… Hello…”
The traveler looked amazed.
“Did you hear that?”
The second friend laughed.
“It’s just an echo.”
The traveler wanted to try for himself.
He stepped forward and shouted,
“Who’s the funniest person here?”
The cave replied,
“…funniest person here… here…”
The three of them burst into laughter.
The traveler grinned.
“I was hoping the cave would say my name.”
One friend smiled.
“It only gives back what you send.”
The traveler thought for a moment.
“So if I say something kind…”
He called into the cave,
“Have a wonderful day!”
The cheerful echo returned the same words.
The three friends continued their hike, smiling.
As they walked away, one of them said,
“Life is a bit like an echo.”
“The attitude you send out often finds its way back to you.”
Everyone agreed, and the rest of the journey was filled with laughter and good conversation.
