The Cat Food Problem

An elderly woman went to the supermarket to buy several cans of cat food.

She placed three cans on the counter.

The cashier looked at her and said, “I’m sorry, but we can’t sell you this cat food without proof that you actually have a cat. We’ve had problems with seniors buying cat food for themselves.”

The woman was surprised.

“Proof?” she asked.

“Yes,” the cashier replied. “You’ll need to bring your cat with you next time.”

The woman shook her head and decided to return later.

The following day, she came back carrying her cat.

The cashier smiled and said, “Thank you. Now I can sell you the food.”

The woman paid and happily walked away.

A few days later, she returned to the same store and picked up several cans of dog food.

The cashier immediately looked worried.

“I’m sorry, ma’am. We have a similar policy with dog food. You’ll need to bring your dog to prove you have one.”

The woman sighed.

“I don’t have a dog.”

The cashier nodded.

“Then why are you buying dog food?”

The woman smiled mischievously.

“Because my cat is tired of eating the same thing every day.”

The cashier burst out laughing.

“Fair enough. I think your cat has earned the right to choose its own menu!”
