Bill, Jim, and Scott were attending a convention together and sharing a large suite on the top floor of a 75-story skyscraper.
After a long day of meetings, they were shocked to discover that the elevators had stopped working.
The three men stood in the hallway, staring at the elevator doors.
“We have to climb 75 floors?” Jim asked.
Scott sighed.
“Looks like it.”
Bill had an idea.
“Let’s make it easier. We’ll take turns telling stories while we climb.”
They agreed.
For the first 25 floors, Bill told funny stories.
Everyone laughed as they climbed.
For the next 25 floors, Jim told interesting stories about his travels.
By the time they reached the 50th floor, they were exhausted.
“Only 25 more!” Scott said.
Scott began telling scary stories.
They slowly climbed higher and higher.
Finally, they reached the 75th floor.
Everyone collapsed outside their room.
Bill reached into his pocket.
Then his face turned pale.
“What’s wrong?” Jim asked.
Bill looked at the others.
“I forgot the key downstairs.”
The three men stared at him.
Scott sighed.
“That’s it. We’re going back down.”
Jim shook his head.
“Wait. I have an idea.”
“What?”
“Let’s call reception.”
Bill looked at him.
“Good idea.”
Jim pulled out his phone.
“Hello, reception? We forgot our room key downstairs.”
The receptionist replied,
“No problem, sir. I’ll send someone up with a spare.”
The three men smiled.
Scott looked at Bill.
“Next time, we’re taking the stairs for the key—not for the whole building.”
