A father and his daughter were playing in the park when his young daughter spotted an apple vendor.
“Daddy, can I have an apple?” she asked.
The father checked his pockets.
He hadn’t brought much money with him.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I don’t have enough money today.”
The little girl looked disappointed.
Just then, the apple vendor noticed them.
“Here you go,” he said, handing the girl a beautiful red apple.
The father smiled gratefully.
“Thank you very much. That’s very kind of you.”
The girl happily took a bite.
Then she looked at the vendor and asked, “How much do I owe you?”
The vendor laughed.
“Nothing, sweetheart. It’s a gift.”
The girl thought for a moment.
Then she handed the apple back.
The vendor looked confused.
“What’s wrong?”
The little girl smiled.
“Daddy says we don’t accept things from strangers.”
The father covered his face with his hands.
The vendor burst out laughing.
“She’s got you there!”
The father smiled and whispered to his daughter,
“Next time, just say thank you.”
She nodded.
“Okay, Daddy. Can I have the apple now?”
“Absolutely.”
She took another bite and smiled.
“Thank you, Daddy.”
The father laughed.
“Much better.”
