Paddy and the Dead Donkey

Paddy bought a donkey from a farmer for £100.

The farmer promised to deliver the donkey the next day.

The following morning, the farmer arrived looking worried.

“Sorry, Paddy, but I have some bad news. The donkey died during the night.”

Paddy looked disappointed.

“Well, in that case, give me my £100 back.”

“I can’t,” said the farmer. “I’ve already spent it.”

Paddy thought for a moment.

“Alright. Then give me the dead donkey.”

“The dead donkey? What are you going to do with it?”

“I’ll raffle it off.”

“You can’t raffle a dead donkey!”

“Sure I can. I just won’t tell anyone it’s dead.”

A month later, the farmer met Paddy and asked,

“So, what happened with that donkey?”

Paddy smiled.

“I sold 500 tickets at £2 each and made £900 profit.”

The farmer was shocked.

“But didn’t anyone complain?”

“Only the person who won.”

“What did you do?”

“I gave him his £2 back.”

Paddy smiled proudly.

“That’s business!”
