An elderly farmer decided it was finally time to replace his old pickup truck.
After seeing an advertisement for a good deal, he visited the dealership.
A friendly salesperson welcomed him and showed him the truck.
“It looks perfect,” the farmer said. “I’ll take it.”
The two sat down to complete the paperwork.
As they reviewed the final price, the farmer noticed several extra charges listed on the bill.
He looked up and asked politely,
“What are all these additional fees?”
The salesperson smiled.
“They’re standard dealership charges.”
The farmer nodded thoughtfully.
Without saying a word, he reached into his pocket, counted out the exact advertised price, and placed the money on the desk.
The salesperson looked surprised.
“Sir, that’s not the full amount.”
The farmer smiled.
“I know.”
“But that’s the price that convinced me to come here.”
The salesperson paused for a moment.
After a brief discussion with the manager, they agreed to honor the advertised price.
As the farmer picked up the keys, the salesperson said,
“You drive a hard bargain.”
The farmer chuckled.
“I’ve spent my whole life on a farm.”
“When you buy wisely, every penny you save helps the harvest.”
The salesperson smiled, realizing that experience is often the best negotiator.
