An elderly woman was walking down the street, dragging two large garbage bags behind her.
One of the bags had a small hole in it, and every few steps, a $20 bill slipped out onto the sidewalk.
A police officer noticed what was happening and quickly stopped her.
“Ma’am, you should probably fix that bag. You’re losing money everywhere!”
The woman looked down and sighed.
“Oh dear. You’re right.”
The officer picked up one of the bills.
“Where did all this money come from?”
The woman smiled.
“I live near a football stadium. After the games, people sometimes throw money over my fence.”
The officer looked confused.
“Why would they do that?”
The woman replied, “Because they don’t want to pay for parking.”
The officer laughed.
“But you’re collecting the money?”
“Of course,” she said.
The officer pointed at the second bag.
“And what’s in that one?”
The woman smiled.
“That’s where I keep the money after I’ve counted it.”
The officer shook his head.
“Well, at least you’re making good use of the situation.”
The woman nodded proudly.
“Waste not, want not!”
