A husband and wife were walking down a high street when the wife spotted a beautiful diamond necklace in a jewelry store window.
She urged her husband to go inside so that she could take a closer look.
The husband sighed but followed her into the store.
The jeweler greeted them warmly and showed the wife several beautiful necklaces.
“Oh, this one is absolutely gorgeous!” she said.
The husband looked at the price tag and nearly fainted.
“How much is it?” he whispered.
“Ten thousand dollars,” the jeweler replied.
The husband quickly shook his head.
“Too expensive.”
His wife looked disappointed.
Just then, the jeweler picked up another necklace.
“This one is very similar, but it’s only five thousand dollars.”
The husband stared at the price.
“Still too much.”
The wife crossed her arms.
“Fine. Let’s leave.”
As they walked toward the door, the husband suddenly stopped.
“Wait!”
He turned to the jeweler.
“Do you have anything cheaper?”
The jeweler smiled and reached under the counter.
“Yes. We have this beautiful necklace for only fifty dollars.”
The wife immediately brightened.
“Really?”
“Yes,” said the jeweler. “It’s made of plastic.”
The husband smiled with relief.
“Perfect!”
His wife stared at him.
“Perfect?”
The husband nodded.
“Of course. Now I can finally afford the matching earrings!”
The wife laughed.
The jeweler laughed.
And the husband quietly hoped they wouldn’t ask about the matching bracelet.
