An elderly man was admitted to a hospital after becoming seriously ill.
Every day, a young man came to visit him. He would spend more than an hour by the old man’s side, helping him eat, bringing him water, and making sure he was comfortable. Before leaving, he always wished him a peaceful day.
The nurses noticed that the young man never missed a visit.
One afternoon, a nurse asked, “Is that your father?”
The young man smiled and shook his head.
“No.”
“Your grandfather?”
Again, he smiled.
“No.”
The nurse looked surprised. “Then who is he?”
The young man replied, “He’s my old school teacher.”
He continued, “Years ago, I struggled in class and almost gave up. He stayed after school every day to help me. He believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.”
The nurse listened quietly.
“I’ve never forgotten his kindness,” the young man said. “Now it’s my turn to be there for him.”
The old man opened his eyes and smiled warmly as he heard those words.
The nurse left the room with a smile, reminded that even the smallest acts of kindness can leave a lifelong impact.
True gratitude is shown not only with words but also with actions.
