Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Assorted food coloring gels (red, blue, green, etc.)
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
- Step 2: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Step 3: Divide the dough into several bowls. Add a different food coloring gel to each bowl, kneading the color into the dough until evenly distributed. You can create various shades by adding more or less color.
- Step 4: Roll out each colored dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness. Use cookie cutters (stars, circles, etc.) to cut out shapes. Place cookies onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Step 5: Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Step 6: Once cooled, decorate with sprinkles or other festive toppings.
Notes
- Store your cooled Fireworks Sugar Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week to maintain their delightful crispness.
- For a warm, gooey center, gently reheat individual cookies in the microwave for 5-10 seconds; avoid over-heating to prevent burning.
- Serve these vibrant cookies on a festive platter, arranging them in a colorful firework pattern for a truly spectacular presentation.
- To prevent the colored dough from sticking to your work surface, chill it in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes before rolling; this also helps maintain its shape better.
