Faith, Flat Tires, and a Farmer’s Dilemma

A prominent lawyer, a distinguished Rabbi, and a serene Hindu holy man found themselves stranded in the middle of nowhere. Their car, a rather temperamental vintage model, had succumbed to a spectacular flat tire. As dusk settled, they spotted a farmhouse in the distance and trudged towards it, hoping for some assistance.

A kindly, if slightly bewildered, farmer answered their knock. They explained their predicament, politely requesting shelter for the night. The farmer, a man of simple pleasures and even simpler logic, scratched his beard thoughtfully.

“Well,” he began, his eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief, “I’d be happy to help, but there might be a problem. You see, I only have one spare bed.”

The lawyer, ever the pragmatist, immediately piped up, “That’s easily solved! The Rabbi and the holy man can share the bed. I’ll sleep on the floor.”

The Rabbi, a man of peace and compromise, nodded in agreement. “That sounds perfectly reasonable, my friend. I’m sure we’ll be comfortable.”

The Hindu holy man, however, remained silent for a moment, his eyes closed in contemplation. He then opened them, a serene smile spreading across his face.

“My dear friends,” he announced gently, “I believe I have a solution that will satisfy everyone. I shall sleep in the barn. I’m used to simple accommodations, and the night air will do me good.”

The lawyer, ever practical, raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure? It might be quite cold out there.”

The holy man chuckled softly. “Do not worry, my friend. I find great peace in meditation under the stars.”

The farmer, utterly perplexed by this unexpected display of monastic restraint, just shook his head in amazement and ushered them inside. He spent the rest of the evening utterly baffled, wondering if the holy man truly *preferred* sleeping in a barn or if he’d just been out-smarted by a truly subtle and selfless act of generosity.
